My name is Ellie Glendinning, and I am a photographer interested in capturing the relationship between humans and the natural environment. My work often focuses on atmosphere, texture and detail, using dark tones and close-ups, especially in my project ‘Remnants’. Other works I have completed have similar meanings and style so there is a connection throughout most of my projects which can be viewed on This website. All my projects recently explore change, memory and as said before the relationship between people and their surroundings. I enjoy photographing overlooked subjects and exploring how emotion and meaning can be interpreted through lighting and colour.
Recent work
My project ‘Remnants’ explores the impact that forestry work has on natural environments. It focuses on the traces and remains left behind after human intervention. Documenting cut wood, broken branches and forest debris to capture the forest in and during this transition. I used close-ups, motion blur and low lighting to create and sense of movement and disruption. Although forestry work is helpful for the environment and they do a lot of work helping to improve the land such as making it more accessible to hikers.
My other projects ‘Lost in Childhood’ and ‘Annunciation’ are projects completed in the past few years. These are projects I resonate with, they have helped me find what my interests are.
Nature is something that we always come back and something we always remember especially from when we were younger, in our childhood.
